Moving Day

It's official - I'm homeless! I handed the keys over to the new owners (well, technically my lawyer handed them over) & am now on the road heading to Seattle.

I had a tough time finding a decent place to stay overnight that takes dogs, but lucked out with a little indie hotel that has wireless for my laptop, a hot tub & probably only 5 other guests in the whole place. I'm not sure anyone else is even staying on my floor. My first choice was the Hampton Inn (always decent), but since they had no room in the inn, I'm soaking up some tacky 1982 decor & quiet. I'm loving the clean sheets & towels, mostly just because I won't have to clean them. I'm so sick of cleaning!

Packing for my big move took much longer than it should have & I have cuts, scrapes & bruises everywhere. Apparently I do not possess mad spacial relation skillz. The toughest item I tried to pack was a simple rice cooker. I must've tried it in 4 different boxes (!) before I found a place for it where it wouldn't get crushed and it wouldn't be the only thing in the box. My storage unit is packed to the rafters & I still had to leave a bunch of stuff at my friend, the big V's workshop. I didn't finish getting everything hauled to storage until almost noon on Monday. The original plan was to have everything packed by Saturday so I could spend all day Sunday cleaning, getting my car ready & wrapping up any last minute errands. Instead I got up at 6:00 a.m. on Saturday & worked straight through until Monday night. I took a late night break for Chinese food (mmmmm...beef with black bean sauce), but otherwise I was a packing, moving, cleaning maniac for 32 hours. Whew!

Time to crash & then another day of driving tomorrow. I stop lots to let the dogs run & stretch my legs so it's a little slow going. I'm going to deserve a massage & pedicure spa treatment when I finally arrive. =)

The Great Box Hunt

I'm wayyyy behind in packing & can't believe I have to be moved out by Monday.  THREE days!  I feel like I'm acting out that Seinfeld comedy bit, sizing every item up for the type of box it would've come inside.  I trucked around all the big box places I could think of - Home Depot, Best Buy & so on - with no luck.  Most of the places with the good boxes (oh monitor boxes, how I love your sturdy cardboard & handles that never tear!) have dastardly crushers, so alley box pickers can't even get close to their boxy goodness.  It's tragic.

I hit pay dirt behind a sports place on Monday.  Because of the holiday their recycle bin runneth over & I stuffed as many boxes into my car as it would carry.  Now comes the tough part of actually organizing my junk.  I had one big one packed perfectly, all space used efficiently & filled to the brim.  Then I realized I couldn't lift the fucker & had to take it all out & divide it into 3 smaller boxes.

Fortunately I've had American Idol to entertain me as I pack.  I'm loving the nerdy guy & he's my one reason for watching this season.  I usually watch bit & pieces throughout the year, but rarely sit through an entire show.  I hate that style of singing, generally & the music choices are always awful.  I really have no desire to see teenagers sing Aretha.  Sorry!  The few interesting contestants (Chris Daughtry, for example) usually get cut & I fully expect that to happen with this year's Chris.  Great exposure for him though.  I could see him doing those commentary spots on E! picking apart the celebs or whatever that show is where they get unheard of comedians to rate the music videos.  Does VH1 even play videos anymore?  It seems like it's always one of those Top 40 Most _______ shows.  Bah.  Dang kids & their lack of rock music!  =)

*Sniffle*

My cold has gone from sniffly to dizzy & I'm feeling absolutely wretched.  I've been trying to do the basics - lots of fluids, vitamin C & sleep.  I think I popped my ear drum from blowing my nose too much & that has really thrown me for a loop.  It really hurts so I've been taking Advil, but the Advil/cough syrup combo makes me feel totally disoriented & woozy.  Hopefully this sucker will move on to somebody else soon!

Happy Valentine's Day!

I'm usually a big fan of silly Hallmark holidays like Valentine's Day, but this year I've got a brutal head cold to keep me company so I'm not feeling too festive.  I don't have any plans, so I'm thinking I'll wait a couple of days & then treat myself to some discounted chocolates.  *grin*
